The University of Delhi (DU) has banned two students, including a leader of Congress’s student wing NSUI, for one year for their alleged involvement in showing a BBC documentary on the Godhra riots on campus. A senior official said that during this time the students will not be allowed to take any examination of the university, college or department.
A DU official said that six other students, who were allegedly involved in the January 27 incident, have been given ‘less severe’ punishment. Along with this, he told that more students can be punished. “We have banned two students and given less severe punishment to six students. We have also called parents of many students. More action can be taken in the coming days.
The DU official did not say what punishment has been given to the 6 other students. The students who have been banned have been identified as Lokesh Chugh, a PhD scholar in the Department of Anthropology and Ravindra from the Faculty of Law.
