Tollywood actor and costume designer Krishna passed away on Sunday in Chennai. Krishna was battling age-related ailments for a long time. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the cinema world due to the news of Krishna’s demise, through social media, celebs and political stars are paying emotional tribute to him. Costume designer-turned-actor Krishna has played the role of a character actor in several Tollywood films. According to media reports, he breathed his last at his residence in Chennai.
Tollywood celebrities expressed grief
Several Tollywood celebrities mourned Krishna’s demise and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Hailing from Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, Krishna’s real name was Madasu Krishna. He moved to Madras in 1954 to work as an assistant costume designer. Within a short period of time, he established himself and later worked as a full-time costume designer in Ramanaidu’s studio.
Designed clothes for stars like NTR and Chiranjeevi
Krishna designed dresses for many top actors and actresses including NTR, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Chiranjeevi, Vanishree, Jayasudha, Jayaprada and Sridevi. The apparels designed by him were trendsetters in those days.
On the advice of director Kodi Ramakrishna, Krishna started acting in films. ‘Bharat Bandh’ (1991) was his first film, in which he played the role of a villain. In his career, he acted in more than 100 films. He played various roles as character actor in films like ‘Pellam Chebite Vinali’, ‘Police Lockup’, ‘Allari Mogudu’, ‘Khalnayak’ and ‘Puttintiki Ra Chelli’.
