Fall in stock market, Sensex-Nifty closed on red mark, heavy loss in these stocks

Indian stock markets closed with losses today due to weak signals coming from abroad. At the end of today’s trade, the Sensex closed 208 points or 0.34 per cent lower at 61,773.78, while the Nifty closed 63 points or 0.34 per cent lower at 18,285.40.

However, Midcap and Smallcap ended with slight gains. The BSE Midcap index touched its 52-week high of 26,585.18 before closing 0.13 per cent higher at 26,488.42, while the Smallcap index gained 0.10 per cent.

In today’s trade, shares of HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC, Reliance Industries and Kotak Mahindra Bank closed down on the Sensex. However, Midcap and Smallcap ended with slight gains. The BSE Midcap index touched its 52-week high of 26,585.18 before closing 0.13 per cent higher at 26,488.42, while the Smallcap index gained 0.10 per cent.

At the close of Sensex, US equity futures and European markets were trading down. Foreign markets are today showing the impact of the failure of the US debt ceiling talks so far. However, UK inflation data came in stronger than expected, dashing hopes of a market stabilization.

“President Joe Biden and congressional Republican representatives ended another round of debt ceiling talks on Tuesday with no signs of progress. The US faces the risk of default if the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling is not raised growing continuously.
