Srinagar: Four passengers from Bihar were killed and 28 others injured when a bus overturned in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. The bus overturned when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Barsu area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.
He said that the four passengers killed in the accident were residents of Bihar. He said that 23 out of 28 passengers injured in the accident have been admitted to different hospitals for treatment. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the accident.
He directed the district administration to provide all possible help to the affected people. Sinha tweeted, ‘I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate bus accident in Avantipora today, in which many valuable lives have been lost and many injured. I have issued instructions to the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons.
The Lt Governor said that the district administration is in touch with the families of the victims in Bihar to provide all possible help. “My deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and I wish speedy recovery to the injured,” he said. An official spokesperson quoted the Lieutenant Governor as saying that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama Bashir-ul-Haq has announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.
Haq also announced a relief of Rs 25,000 for the seriously injured and Rs 10,000 for those with minor injuries, the spokesman said. Haque later visited SMHS and Bone and Joint Hospital to inquire about the health of the injured.
