Google Pay introduces new RuPay credit card with UPI support, know how to use it?

Google Pay has collaborated with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to enable integration of RuPay credit card with Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Now, users have the option to link their RuPay credit card with Google Pay, allowing them to make easy payments at both online and offline merchants that accept RuPay credit cards.

In an official statement, the company announced that the facility is now available for RuPay credit card holders of Axis Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Union Bank of India .

“This feature will give Google Pay users more flexibility and choice in making payments, and will lead to greater adoption of digital payments in the country,” said Sharath Bulusu, Director of Product Management, Google.

To activate the feature, the user needs to:

  • Add your RuPay Credit Card to Google Pay
  • In the profile, the user can select the option “Rupay Credit Card on UPI”
  • Now the user can choose the bank which has issued the RuPay Credit Card
  • To set the unique UPI PIN, users need to enter the last six digits of their card number along with the expiry date.
  • After this the OTP received from their bank will be entered

Nalin Bansal, Chief Relationship Management & Key Initiatives, Corporate Business, NPCI said, “The integration of RuPay Credit Card on UPI provides a remarkable user experience by seamlessly combining the convenience of UPI with the benefits of RuPay Credit Card.”

In June 2022, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed RuPay credit cards to be integrated with the UPI platform. During March, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) saw a significant increase in the number of monthly transactions, with UPI transactions reaching an impressive 8.7 billion. Based on NPCI data, UPI facilitated around 74 billion transactions worth Rs 125.94 trillion during the calendar year 2022.
