Here, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Assistant Commissioner of Central Good and Services Tax (CGST) Mahesh Chaudhary and his wife for possessing disproportionate assets. About Rs 42 lakh cash has been seized by the CBI in the raid at his house.

Assets worth more than 3 crores unearthed

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case on February 8 against Assistant Commissioner, CGST, Gandhidham and his wife on charges of disproportionate assets. According to CBI, Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Chowdhary acquired huge amount of cash, bank balance, movable and immovable properties during the year 2017 to 2021 in his name and in the name of his family members. According to the CBI, assets worth about Rs 3,71,12,499 were wrongly collected. This is much higher than the actual income of the tax officer.

Raids at many places in Gujarat and Rajasthan

The CBI today carried out simultaneous searches at several places in Gujarat and Rajasthan to ascertain the amount of wealth illegally acquired by the tax official. About 42 lakh cash, foreign currencies, jewellery, precious watches and documents related to property have been found from the tax officer’s house.
