The Central Government has spent Rs 5,25,91,827 on foreign tours of the Foreign Minister during the last one year. According to a written reply by the Ministry of External Affairs in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, the foreign visits have been aimed at fostering closer ties with foreign countries and promoting India’s participation at the regional and global levels. Through such visits, India fulfills its national interest and implements foreign policy objectives. These visits have enhanced understanding of India’s perspective on regional and global issues among foreign partners at the highest level.

These visits enabled India to strengthen relations with partner countries and to put forth India’s perspective and agenda on global issues such as reformed multilateralism, peace and security, climate change, transnational crime, terrorism, cyber security, energy and food security, etc. while offering India’s own unique solutions to partners to address global issues.

India’s National Development Agenda

These visits and the agreements signed in them enable India to strengthen ties with partner countries in a number of areas, including trade and investment, technology and defense cooperation. The response states that such outcomes also contribute to India’s national development agenda to promote economic growth and well-being of our people, and to put forth the interests of developing countries in fora such as the G20.
