The Telangana government has decided to postpone the inauguration of the new secretariat building that was scheduled for February 17. The decision has been taken due to imposition of model code of conduct in Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers’ Constituency and Hyderabad Local Authorities’ Constituency due to Legislative Council elections to be held on March 13.
The building inauguration program was proposed as a show of opposition unity, especially when Telangana Chief Minister K.K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) transformed his regional party into a national party, the BRS. Apart from KCR, several chief ministers and political leaders from across the country were lined up for a public meeting on the day of the inauguration ceremony.
When will the next date be announced?
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office on Saturday said the state chief secretary consulted the Central Election Commission regarding the inauguration ceremony of the secretariat, which was already fixed for February 17. Since the response received from the Commission is not promising, the State Secretariat inauguration program announced earlier has been postponed for the time being. The CMO said that the next date for the inauguration of the new secretariat building would be announced later.
At the same time, on February 3, a fire broke out in the secretariat complex of the Telangana government. The fire spread from the ground floor to the first and second floors. Fire tenders reached the spot and after two hours of struggle, the fire was brought under control.
