Agartala: In Tripura Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tripura today where he will address Vijay Sankalp Rally Corps at Ambassa and Gomti. The prime minister will be received at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) airport here, the party’s state media in-charge Suneet Sarkar said. He informed that PM Modi will address the first rally at Ambasa in Dhalai district around 12 noon and is likely to address the second rally at Gomti at 3 pm.
Security beefed up in view of PM’s visit
On the other hand, North East Coordinator of the party, Dr. Sambit Patra, Bhattacharya held a meeting here with other leaders and discussed the preparations ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. The government informed that the Prime Minister may visit the state on February 13 as well. According to senior police officials, security has been beefed up across the state in view of the Prime Minister’s visit. Let us tell you that the BJP has released its election manifesto on Thursday. In it, the party promised that if voted to power for a second consecutive term in Tripura, it would provide greater autonomy for tribal areas, subsidize farmers and increase specific-manufacturing areas of the rubber-based industry. BJP also made populist promises for women and girl students. Voting will be held in the state on 16 February.
Releasing the party’s manifesto, BJP president J.P. Nadda said a Rs 5 meal scheme for all would be launched in the name of religious guru Anukul Chandra, besides setting up a Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Agartala. However, instead of the traditional press conference, Nadda released the manifesto in front of his workers in a huge auditorium, which made no mention about giving jobs to the people or pension and dearness allowance for the state’s 1.9 lakh government employees.
The promises of greater autonomy for tribal areas are seen by analysts as a response to demands made by the Tipra Motha party for a “Greater Tipraland”. Similarly, in order to counter the Trinamool Congress’s promises of various benefits for farmers and women in Tripura, the BJP has focused on both the sections in the manifesto.
